Burapha University Strengthens Strategic Research Partnership with Korean Research Networks through USTIC 2026, Advancing toward Quantum Computing

🌏🤝Burapha University Strengthens Strategic Research Partnership with Korean Research Networks through USTIC 2026, Advancing toward Quantum Computing
📅 On 1–2 October 2026, Burapha University (BUU), represented by the Faculty of Informatics, participated in academic and international networking activities in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. A key activity was participation in USTIC 2026 (Unlimited Science & Technology International Conference), held on 1–2 October 2026 at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) and organized by the University of Science and Technology (UST) under the concept “Across Disciplines, Across Schools, Across Nations” and the main theme “AI for Science.”
🌐 USTIC 2026 served as an international platform connecting researchers, students, experts, and partner institutions from around the world to exchange knowledge and advances in science and technology while strengthening international research networks. UST is connected with a network of 30 government-funded science and technology research institutes in the Republic of Korea. The conference brought together approximately 500 participants, including around 300 student researchers, and covered six research clusters, featuring 90 oral presentations and 144 poster presentations.
🎤 A key highlight of BUU’s participation was Dr. Thanin Methiyothin, a faculty member of the Faculty of Informatics, Burapha University, who was invited as a Featured Speaker at USTIC 2026. He delivered a presentation entitled “AI for Infectious Disease Forecasting in Thailand and Korea” during the special session “AI Program Achievers” on 1 October 2026, from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. His presentation demonstrated the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science to infectious disease analysis and forecasting, connecting research knowledge and experience between Thailand and the Republic of Korea. This reflects the continuity of research collaboration in Applied AI, Big Data, and Bioinformatics.
🎓 The Faculty of Informatics also supported two Ph.D. students in Data Science in presenting their research at the conference. Mr. Srichol Phiromlap presented a poster entitled “Semantic Enhanced Large Language Model: SMELL” in the Flagship & Digital Innovation cluster, while Mr. Wira Srimala delivered an oral presentation entitled “A Sensor Fusion Approach for Lighting-Robust Real-Time Pothole Detection and Geo-Localization” in the Advanced Manufacturing & Mobility cluster. Their participation provided an opportunity to showcase graduate research on an international stage, exchange knowledge, and establish connections with researchers and science and technology institutions from around the world.
🔬 Advancing the BUU–Korea Research Ecosystem toward Quantum Computing**
🤝 Participation in USTIC 2026 forms part of BUU’s efforts to advance its strategic partnership in research and human resource development with science and technology institutions in the Republic of Korea. In particular, ongoing collaboration with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) and UST has focused on AI, Big Data, and digital data exchange for infectious disease surveillance. These activities contribute to the development of a Research Ecosystem that integrates research, human resource development, and researcher and student mobility within international networks.
💻 Another strategic direction that the Faculty of Informatics aims to further develop is Quantum Computing. UST recognizes Quantum Information as one of the future technologies within its Flagship Major, alongside Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Bio-Convergence, and Advanced Robotics. The Faculty therefore aims to leverage its collaborative network in the Republic of Korea to establish a foundation of knowledge and expertise in Quantum Computing, building upon its existing strengths in AI, Data Science, High-Performance Computing, and digital technologies.
🚀 This initiative is intended to lay the groundwork for Quantum Computing to become one of the Faculty’s future Flagship Programs, while creating further opportunities for joint research, human resource development, researcher and student exchanges, and advanced technology networks with partners in the Republic of Korea and beyond.
🌏 Participation in USTIC 2026 therefore marks another step in Burapha University’s efforts to advance international collaboration toward a Strategic Research Partnership, creating new opportunities for collaborative research, the development of researchers and graduate students, and cooperation in emerging and future technologies.
🙏 Burapha University extends its sincere appreciation to Associate Professor Dr. Watcharin Gasaluck, President of Burapha University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Parinya Nakpathom, Vice President of Burapha University, for their continued support of collaboration with the Republic of Korea. Their support provides an important foundation for expanding opportunities in research, human resource development, and Burapha University’s international collaborative networks.
